after i graduated college in 2001, i realized i needed employment. i living at home again and that was a scenario i needed t correct. i'd already spent seven years in college, changing majors twice and settling on sound engineering. i found a job opening for a recording engineer in the suburbs of chicago at a video game company and sent in my resume. a few days later, i received a reply saying they're interested in a phone interview, which we did later that week.

in that interview, they told me that they are looking for someone who can write music for the games as well as be the engineer. i (lied) and said that this wouldn't be a problem. they asked me if i had a demo reel and i (lied) and said "yes, give me the weekend to piece it together and i'll mail it out asap." they felt this was fair and agreed.

i had no demo reel.

i spent an entire weekend jacked up on coffee and trucker speed manically writing electronic music in my parents basement. at the end of that weekend, i was proud of the manic, fucked up electro-industrial-ebm-what-the-fuck i'd created and i fedexed the results to my contact at the video game company.

they never called me back. i called to follow up and the receptionist said "um... oh. hi. we're not taking calls from you."
